A digital pattern for a cute little head scarf to keep your curls in place. Based on vintage sewing patterns from the 1930s, this fun and perfectly practical accessory makes an elegant gift or sweet vintage inspired addition to your own wardrobe. Wear it when setting those waves, as a sweet ear warmer, a cute everyday hair band or a little neck scarf.
The samples shown were made with a soft 4ply pure cotton (fingering), however the pattern is very forgiving and is easily adapted to different yarn weights. Slight variations in tension should not detract from the end result.
Cotton or bamboo is recommended if used as a scarf to hold and dry your curls but if your little scarf is needed for warmth or even just for show, try an 8ply (DK), 5ply (sport), a heavier 4 ply (fingering) or even 3ply (lace weight) yarn. A 3 or 4ply and a fine mohair held together would create a luxurious halo fabric reminiscent of all those lovely 1940s and 50s angora sweaters. The customization possibilities truly are endless.
The body of the scarf is knit flat (back and forth) with simple increases and decreases to shape. The ties are basic I-cords created with two double pointed needles. This simple project is perfect for travelling, chatting with friends over coffee at a cafe, listening to an audio book or binge watching your favourite series.
