A warm and stylish little ascot cravat scarf, this fun accessory makes an elegant gift or sweet vintage inspired addition to your own wardrobe. Wear it with or without the little scarf ring shown, dress it up with a vintage brooch or secure with a modern scarf pin to match your outfit.Digital Pattern for an Ascot Style Cravat with an optional knitted scarf ring.

This is a very simple project requiring 3.5mm/US No 4 DPNs or a circular needle and two stitch markers. The body of the scarf is worked in the round with simple increases and decreases forming the tips. The optional removable scarf ring is created separately in the round.

Pattern testing indicates that the average knitter can complete this project over approximately 9 hours, making it the perfect for travelling. The pattern is simple enough to knit while chatting with friends over coffee at a cafe, listening to an audio book or binge watching your favourite series.

The samples shown are approximately 92cm/36 inches long and 10cm/4 inches wide. They are knitted a soft super fine Alpaca 8 ply (DK). This yarn knits closer to a 6/7 ply (sport weight) yarn than a true double knit; however, the pattern is very forgiving, and slight variations in tension should not detract from the end result. Choose between 8 ply (DK), 5 ply (sport), a heavier 4 ply (fingering) weight or even 3ply (lace weight) yarn held double.

A 4ply and a fine mohair held together would create a luxurious halo fabric reminiscent of all those lovely 1940s and 50s angora sweaters. The customization possibilities truly are endless.

I have managed to keep the pattern file small with only two pages. A cover page with some notes and photographic example and a pattern page without photographs for ease of printing to travel with you and make notes.
